Why drones make sense here

Big estates in Sabah and Sarawak face a familiar list: hard to find workers, wet season roads, peat that swallows tractors, and blocks spread across hills. Drones take the most tiring part, carrying chemicals and fertiliser through the field, off the crew’s backs.

Research elsewhere in the region shows the scale of the time saving. In a rice trial at IPB University in Indonesia, drones took about 0.6 hours per hectare compared with about 5.3 hours for knapsack spraying (Andryan et al., 2025). Palm is a different crop, so we use that only as context.

Do CAAM rules apply in Sabah and Sarawak?

Yes. CAAM regulates civil aviation across Malaysia. Agricultural drone work falls under CAD 6011 Part (II).

Can drones fertilise oil palm on peat?

Yes, that is one of the most useful jobs, as long as there are firm take off spots.

Do you travel to remote estates?

Yes, with a logistics plan for power, water and accommodation. Remote jobs are usually clustered.

How much does it cost per hectare?
